Driving under the influence is a serious charge in itself. When combined with other offenses, it can become much more severe. One Alabama man is dead and another faces murder charges after an alleged DUI reportedly combined with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in injury and death.
The accident occurred very early in the morning last Tuesday near the intersection of Cox Road and Wire Road in Auburn, Alabama. Responding to a report of an injury accident in which one of the vehicles allegedly left the scene, authorities found a motorcycle on the road. An unresponsive 57-year-old man presumed to have been riding the motorcycle was lying nearby. A coroner pronounced the man dead approximately an hour and a half later.
A canvass of the area yielded a vehicle suspicious for involvement in the accident based on the available information. Perceived impairment on the part of the driver led to an arrest on charges of DUI and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries. Authorities added the murder charge later after additional investigation.
At this time, law enforcement continues to investigate the case and has asked the public to call with any further relevant information. The driver’s bond totals $153,750, and he remains in county jail at this time.
It is not known what kind of sentence the driver faces if convicted. Those charged with DUI or related offenses need not stand up to them alone if they determine that it would be more helpful to enlist the services of a defense attorney.
